Can you believe it? Already the end of the second week of this new year. So let’s do a quick check-in to see how I am doin’ on My Direction.
Spiritual – Remember last week when I gave myself a 4 out of 10 due to the fact that it was the night before I was to teach my lesson and I had yet to prepare? Well, I stayed up late that night and got up early Sunday morning to pull together my lesson. And though I procrastinated the lesson actually turned out rather well. I received several compliments. This week I am aiming to begin pulling my lesson together more than 16 hours ahead. If I can do that it should be a good week. For this week I give myself a 5 out of 10.
Intellectual – I am just about finished with the book Founding Brothers. I have found time every day to read a little. The book is incredibly interesting. Especially given the current presidential race. One thing that stands out to me is how little things really change. Ever since Thomas Jefferson – who was a bright guy but ambitious to a fault – and John Adams – who save for George Washington did more for the founding of this nation than any of the Founding Fathers – contested for the president of the United States there has been bickering, name calling, and down right dirty tricks played between people running for the high office. Sometimes we tend to think things are getting worse, and that the current partisanship displayed in Washington is detrimental to this country. Truth be told, it has been this way for a very long time. And the partisanship in many ways is healthy. But I digress. As for my efforts this week I give myself a 7 out of 10.
Emotional - I have spent some quality time with my son Noah. He is such a cute kid and growing up quickly. Also, I have been fairly consistent in my efforts. Overall my efforts garner a 7 out of 10.
Physical - I did well this week with this goal. I worked out consistently. The effort is beginning to pay off. Each Saturday I head over to the Circuit Bouldering Gym here in Portland. I absolutely enjoy the sport. Having been out of it for several years it is a joy to get “back on the rock”. I have been working on 3 different routes for a couple of weeks now. Each giving me a challenge. Until Saturday! When I whipped all three! Woo Hoo. Being able to finish each of the problems is due to the exercise I put in during the week. So for my consistency I give myself a 7 out of 10.
Financial – I would give myself a 4 out of 10. I need to work on the business idea. I did spend less this week. Thus the slight bump in the score.
Fun – One of the goals I set for myself upon moving to Oregon was to summit Mount Hood. This week I got one step closer. A few of my friends and I started planning the summit expedition. We plan on tackling the mountain in June of this year. When it happens I will make sure to write about it. Because I started planning this major fun event I am going to give myself a 7 out of 10.
Overall it was a good week. I do need to be a bit more consistent in my efforts. Especially at work. Also I need to write a little more on this blog. So for an overall score it was a 6 out of 10 week

Cliff and I were just talking about the exact thing you said in your comments about Founding Brothers. It has always been this way in politics from the start, and that gives us hope!
Keep up the good work Brother!
