Time to Report

Report Card

Ok, it is time to report how I did this week. A quick note on how I am going to report my progress. As you can see below I simply copied and pasted my target list from the previous entry. To the right of each item I will comment and how well or how bad I did.

So let’s get to it!

  • Physical
    • Be ready to add 10lbs to my stair climb [I am ready to roll. Wish me luck]
    • Be able to do 50 pushups in a row [I did 49 tonight before my arms gave out. So close]
    • Complete the 0 bouldering route I have been working on and at least two 1 routes. Also attempt a 2. [I finished the 0 route on the first go. I was only able to complete one 1 route. And did not attempt a 2. That was a bit to ambitious]
  • Fun
    • Talk to Matt about setting up dinner with his Aunt to discuss summiting Mount Hood [Done. We are going to get together in a couple of weeks]
  • Emotional
    • Spend a saucy evening with my Wife [Failed. Need to make this happen this month. Sorry honey]
    • Post once to personal family blog [Done]
  • Financial
    • Have business web site 75% of the way completed [Failed. No comment other than I did not make the time to do this.]
  • Intellectual
    • Have “On the Good Life” 80% completed [I am about 75% completed. So close]
    • Have posted 2 posts to Success Unexpected [Failed]
    • Have posted 3 posts to Unintended Consequences [Did not happen. Unintended Consequences is a blog for me to explore my political philosophies.]
  • Spiritual
    • Have read lesson prior to Saturday[Failed. But I did deliver what I thought was a strong lesson today.]

Ok so there you have it. Not so shabby but not out of this world great either. Now onto this week, but for that you will have to read my next post, which will be up tomorrow.

Good night and God Bless.

Can you believe the month of Jan is almost over? 2008 is 1/12th completed! Like the Steve Miller Band once said ” Time keeps on slippin, slippin, slippin – into the future“. But seriously will someone please slow down this ride. It keeps picking up speed the older I get.

Realizing that the month of Jan is almost over is creating a bit of urgency in me. I do feel like I am making forward progress on my goals, but I am not sure if I am making that progress quick enough. Also, some of my goals are getting more attention than others.

Here we are. The end of the first week of the New Year. My how time does slip by.

Ok, so let me give you a quick update on how I am doing.

Spiritual – Well I am teaching Sunday School tomorrow and have not prepped yet. So in this category I would give myself a 4 out of 10.

Intellectual – I am currently reading a book entitled Founding Brothers. It is a pretty interesting read on a few of the Founding Fathers of the United States of America. Also, I have been following current affairs almost every days. So overall I give myself a 7 out of 10.

Emotional – I have spent some quality time with my son Noah. He is such a cute kid and growing up quickly. Also, I have been fairly consistent in my efforts. Overall my efforts garner a 7 out of 10.

Physical – I am pretty tired here at the end of the week. Why? Well I started exercising. I was not 100% on my goals. But I did pretty good. I got about 3.5 hours of cardiovascular in. I did hit my goal of doing some kind of resistance training 3 times this week. And I did a pretty darn good job at cutting back on sugary and fatty foods. In fact at work they put a bowl of chocolate right next to my desk and I only gave in twice. Not to shabby if you ask me. I am going to give myself a 7 out of 10 because I did not get as much cardiovascular exercise in as I should have.

Financial – I would give myself a 3 out of 10 in this category. I need to start working on the business idea and I spent a little to much today on eating out and a movie.

Fun – This was a work week so fun was not to be had. However, I did have a good day today with a friend. So let’s say 6 out of 10.

Overall it was a 6 out of 10 week

Take It Off

Well the new year is here. And that means that I am off to the races, so to speak. Over the course of the year I am going to write about my experience to accomplish the direction that I have set for myself. I hope to not be too boring. Meaning I do not want this to be simply a travel log but also an accounting of my hopes and fears. My success and failures. And most importantly how have I learned and grown as a person.
So let’s get started. One of my targets is to loose 20lbs. Here is my strategy.

    • Exercise. Get at least 60 minutes of cardiovascular 5 days a week.
    • Strength Train 30 minutes 3x’s a week
    • Decrease my intake of refined sugar. Eliminate Soda and drinks with High Fructose Corn Syrup
    • Improve my intake of whole grains, vegetables, and fruit
    • Implement the 80% Rule…eat until I feel 80% full.
    • Increase water intake

I know it is not rocket science. Most things in life are not. The real challenge is staying consistent. It is easy to “be good” for a day or a week. But for a month, 3 months, and heaven forbid a year. There lies the crux. With that I am off to exercise. Wish me luck.

I have always found with the dawn of a new year comes great energy. This year is no different. I am so excited for the new year to start. I feel like it is a fresh start. A clean slate. A chance to make the year the way you want it to go.

For the past few years my wife and I have sat down on Dec. 31st and written out goals that we want to accomplish for the upcoming year. I know that New Years Resolutions are somewhat out of fashion. However, we have found them to be a great source of happiness.

Happiness you say. How can that be? For me happiness comes from forward motion. From setting and achieving goals. It comes from having a direction and heading in that direction. The setting of a direction, or goals, at the beginning of the year puts my feat on a path that I want to go down. Instead of having the whims of the world determine my direction.

In the past the setting of my direction and goals has been a very private affair. Something between my wife and I. However, this year I have decided to blog about my experience. There are several reasons behind this.

First, it will help me accomplish what I set out to do. By telling others what I plan to do builds within me a sense of urgency and responsibility.

Second, I hope, in some small way, to inspire others. I work in an industry where everyday we help people get more out of their daily lives. I love this. It is so rewarding. So I hope in some small way I can inspire others to set a direction for their lives and achieve it.
